How to Make Your Makeup Last Longer

Applying makeup can be a lengthy task for many women. However, it’s more heartbreaking if all this hard work doesn’t last the entire day. Adding a few extra steps to your makeup regime can take it a long way.

Good makeup begins with a healthy and clean face. You should wash your face to remove away oil, dirt and any other products you might have applied before. It is suggested to wash your face every morning before you apply any product. Use a mild face-wash that cleans your skin gently without causing any irritation.

You should also use a face scrub for exfoliating your skin a few times a week. This shall remove the dead skin cells and give you a smooth and clear skin. You should also scrub your lips regularly for your lipstick to stay intact.

The next step is to moisturise your skin. Different types of skin may need different types of moisturiser. As a good base for makeup, you can use light moisturisers with SPF 15 or more. Sunscreen properties are necessary to protect the skin from harmful UV rays that leave your skin damaged.

After moisturisation, you should go for a good primer. Getting a good primer can be costly but experts say that is the secret to long-lasting makeup. For dry skin, you can go for extra-hydrating primers. For oily skin, you should go for a matt primer that covers the oily texture. Apply a little bit of primer all over your face, and it will smooth out your skin, making it a perfect canvas for your makeup. The primer can effectively lock your makeup and keep it steady for long hours.

Using an eye primer will also keep your eye-shadow intact for a long time without making it blurred or smudged. Primers can effectively increase the vibrancy of your makeup. After primer, the next important thing to get is the right shade of foundation. Use a cream foundation, cream-to-powder foundation or a cream foundation according to your skin type. Try to get the shade that is closest to your skin to get the best benefits. After foundation, you should cover up the makeup by using a translucent setting powder.

To make your lipstick last longer, you should have your lips well-moisturized and hydrated. You should go for long-wear lip products like matte lipsticks and lip stains. Use a lip liner after you have applied the lipstick to keep the shape firm for longer hours.

For eye makeup, use powdered eye shadow rather than cream shadows. Use a small brush to apply the eye shadow after applying the eye primer. Let it sit for a while. Use a water-resistant mascara that will make your lashes look fresh throughout the day. Try to avoid waterproof formulas in mascaras as they can be damaging for daily use.

Finally, you should avoid touching your face after you have applied your makeup. If you feel like touching it up after a few hours, don’t re-apply too many products. Make sure to remove all the products with a toner before you sleep.
